Clean hands...
Since the water companies seem to have carte blanche to pump sewage into the UK’s rivers and sea, at the slightest excuse, we should not be surprised that they can now do it all the time, legally. The Conservative government voted to let them.
A shortage of chemicals, a thing that never happened before Brexit, means they cannot treat sewage waste before pumping it out into the rivers and seas that provide drinking water, sport facilities, holiday destinations and fisheries.
At the same time the Tory press is full of editorials about how the ECJ’s role in the Northern Ireland protocol is: an insult, means the UK is a vassal state, that the EU is trying to colonise Northern Ireland and unsustainable.
Not a mention that it was all this government’s idea, negotiated by the same, voted through by the same and was the basis of a general election won by the same party.
Other articles supporting a trade war, a no deal and WTO rules are also available as is the news the Boris Johnson will never compromise on the role of the ECJ, it must like Carthage, be destroyed.
Feeding such stuff to the British public is one thing, it has certainly worked in the past and will doubtless work again. But the EU takes one look at the UK’s beaches and another at its press and decides that the UK is beyond the pale.
The UK cannot keep its sewerage system working or its word.
Its handshake is not to be trusted.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
