China quakes.....or not
The two contenders for the Tory party leadership are now competing to be the toughest on China.
It is not an issue that was on anyone’s political radar last week, now they are competing to be more pathetic than each other.
All of a sudden there is a yellow peril threatening our universities, safety, security and very way of life and only Liz/Rishi (delete as appropriate) can save us.
One allowed more Confucius Centres on UK campuses, the other let a Chinese company buy a fish and chip shop, or something.
Both heinous crimes makes the other unfit to hold high office.
The diplomatic cables must be flying between the London Embassy and the Chinese Foreign Office. Hourly updates are demanded on the contest and the threat it poses to the belt and road initiative, economic growth in the Chinese regions, the rule of law in Hong Kong and the safety of Taiwan.
Reassurances are doubtless being sought as as we speak from an anxious Ambassador, that neither candidate will send the Navy to reclaim HK or cut supplies to the Chinese pork market.
Or perhaps not. Perhaps they don’t give a fig. Just a guess.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
