The CBI will today publish its wish list of economic measures it thinks should help the British economy recover from Covid and Brexit. I can’t remember how many such plans I have covered over the years but it is so many that eventually I just used to ask if this time the CBI wanted more tax cuts for business and more spending by Government on business. The answer, by the way was always yes.
This one is different, business leaders still want less tax and more spending but they also want a serious government that listens to them. This was never really much of a problem in the past even with a Labour government but the fact is that relations with this administration have fallen to an all time low for nearly every business organisation I can think of.
The reason is that the government implemented a policy that it and business know is bad for the economy and then refused to listen to any suggestions from business that might have ameliorated the situation. Even going as far as to stop inviting those who complained too loudly to the next meeting.
So top of the wish list this time is presumably a government that isn’t hell bent on an ideologically driven economic car crash. Best not write it down anywhere though.

The CBI wants to Bury the hatchet says all you need to know. Do as you are told by us or we will nag you until you do?
As for the CBI needing a labour government who would do as they are told? Maybe they are devoid of ides so would do as they are told?
And then there is criticism of speed of action and scale of ambition? From what I have seen Boris can move fast and with a demonstrable amount of ambition. Just sell your ideas to him and get his buy in.
Still fighting Brexit are we Jonty - give it up mate!
