It is totally obvious what kind of a human being Donald Trump is, a massive shit. There have however been really quite nasty people who have been President before and there doubtless will be in future.
The difference with Donald Trump is that he is also a self preening idiot and a dangerous man who would hand Ukraine to Moscow, undermine if not destroy NATO, who cannot be trusted to safeguard Taiwan and wants to throw the world into a 1930’s tariff war.
I find it hard enough to understand why intelligent Republicans would vote for the man let alone half the nation but what is impossible to understand is that the right in the UK seem to love the man. Not just the pathetic boot lickers like Truss and Farage, but so called serious politicians and journalists.
Now I know that traditionally they have supported the Republicans while the left has backed the Democrats but Trump has shifted the Republicans far to the right and still the UK rightwing adores him. They take any and all opportunities to slag off Biden and Harris, they ape Trump’s bigoted campaign claims, they refuse to admit he is totally out of control and unfit to govern, they ignore his racism and America first policies, his love of dictatorships and his attempt to overthrow the election by armed force.
WHY?
I can only assume that they think they are masters of realpolitik, that if he wins then the “special relationship” will save us from his worst policies, that he loves us really, but to make that certain we have the pretend to love him. They also seem to love his attacks on the “woke”, which is his shield behind which he can be racist; haven’t they noticed that?
This is just a sad fantasy, one of the many the right in the UK has adopted recently, like Brexit and Rwanda and trickle down economics. They think they are the realistic hard men and women and the rest of us are woke wimps.
These are the same people who think where in the White House a president places the statue of Winston Churchill is some kind of omen or sign about the state of our relationship with the USA.
The right is so desperate to be close to the Oval Office they will do and say anything to get up Trumps arse and then they try to tell you it is in our national interest.
A second Trump presidency will be a disaster, for us, the world and the US, that is realpolitik.
If it happens we will have to do our best to survive it, that is realpolitik.
Hoping it will happen or helping make it happen is crass naiveté and stupidity
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

Farage and Truss up Trump’s arse reminds me of Churchill on appeasers - “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.” They can’t control the crocodile, and the crocodile doesn’t give a shit about them. Please god Harris beats him
It's good that Harris has quickly gone onto the front foot, pointing out that her work as a DA makes her familiar with Trump's 'type'. Go, Kamala!
