This is just a rehash of the article that I have written for The New European but the subject made me so mad I am going to repeat it here.
Rachael Reeves was in Washington and gave an interview to the BBC, pointing out that although she wants a trade deal with America, improving the one with the EU is more important.
And so the far right came for her, apparently it was madness to describe the world thus, she had ruined out chances of a deal with Washington, the Telegraph and others accusing her of Brexit betrayal and basically being a modern day Quisling who was willing to do or say anything to sell us out to a lob sided deal with Brussels.
But the simple fact is we do 13.5% of our trade with America, and 41% of our trade with the EU, which does not even count the EEA, Switzerland or Turkey which is in the EU’s Customs Union.
Last time I looked 41 was three times bigger than 13.5.
It certainly was when I did Maths ‘O’ level and I am pretty sure it is now.
This is how far we have sunk, we cannot even talk about how important the EU is to our economy, without being traitors. Let alone mention the fact that a trade deal with Trump is not worth the paper it is written on, that he is a liar and a fraud, that he tears up treaties he has negotiated and has put tariffs of 10% on all our exports and 25% on cars and metals.
Nor apparently can we even mention that we do far more trade with the EU despite the fact Brexit and its supporters have thrown obstacle after obstacle in the path of our exporters and now complain that our exports to Europe are not growing very quickly.
Gosh, I wonder why that might be?
This is positively Orwellian, where "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears". We are being berated by fantasists who are lying about simple facts and being told that those introducing sensible policies based on those facts and which are in the national interest are traitors.
And these people look set to win the local elections, the only consolation is that the Tories and Kemi Badenoch will suffer more than anyone else.
If they can count the results that is, their maths really is that bad.

Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
Agreed. But what to do?
Social media rules today, not the RWM, which have a declining reach tho’ they set the agenda for the BBC.
Maybe a concerted effort to boost Bylines media and TNE?
Torygraph, Daily Wail etc - all should carry a health warning
