Calais and climate change
Nigel Farage stood aside his candidates at the last election in seats that the Tory party was targeting. That alone doubled the Tory government’s majority.
Given the state of the polls the Tories are going to need Mr. Farage do the same again, he is the king maker and has them by the throat.
It all helps explain why the Home Office is being not just incompetent but proactively difficult in Calais and other places. It looks like it is selling out Ukrainian refugees to keep Mr Farage on board.
Mr. Farage latest campaign is to have a referendum to end Net Zero, apparently now is the time to make ourselves more dependent on Russian oil and gas, who knew?
The UK should, instead, be investing vast amounts in property insulation (shamefully bad and appalingly badly hit by austerity), energy efficiency and more green energy.
But the Venn diagram of Brexiteers and climate change deniers is almost a perfect circle.
Net Zero is what they will come for next. Will this government stand up to them?
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
