Brexit dividends...
Some of the very same people who lied during the referendum that the UK’s armed forces would be taken over by an EU army are now the ones calling for a firm military response by the EU to the invasion of the Ukraine by Russia.
Which ignores the fact that the EU doesn’t have an army.
Some are also blaming the EU for antagonising Russia, which at least has an element of truth. As Russia has sought to undermine the grouping of sovereign, free, democratic and capitalist countries across Europe. Because it feels threatened by their success and likes kleptocracy, totalitarianism and military might instead.
But still the UK is now Global Britain, with independent heft and power like never before. Time to show the world it means business.
But just to make sure why not spend some of the Brexit gains on reversing those endless defence cuts?
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
