You’ll find a longer version of this blog on the New European’s website but the bare bones of the matter are that The UK in a Changing Europe (UKICE) has another report out on the cooperation or lack of it between the UK and the EU.
In short, the UK is having to roll over every time it wants something from the EU. It has backed down on CE marks, failed to implement food testing, it wants to rejoin the electricity exchange system and everytime it has to ask nicely.
Meanwhile the EU is less and less bothered about Brexit, UK officials are limited to technical discussions, politicians aren’t trying to be or won’t be heard and “Rishi Sunak is relying on ad hoc meetings in the margins of international summits to discuss major issues.”
We are like Oliver Twist looking through the orphanage window at the feasts the Beadles are enjoying and then asking for more gruel.
Except in this instance the UK used to be at the high table filling its boots. Now it is outside looking in.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
