Or apparently not. Blue, deep tory party blue is the one colour you won’t find on much election material this year. It seems that distancing yourself from the colour, the party and especially the leader is one surefire way of boosting your vote.
What a state to be in, so unpopular your own candidates disown you, shun you and ask for you not to visit.
Still with voting registration rigged, the electoral rules for mayoral elections changed and their candidates trying to look like greens or Lib Dems; there is some vague hope for some solace for the PM in these elections.
But it will be short lived I feel. Because he cannot not really fail to campaign in a general election. He has to be on screen and on the radio all the time. He has to visit factories and constituencies, kiss babies and shake hands.
The problem now is that such tactics will probably cost votes, not win them.
