Bigger elephant, smaller room
The FT reports in its start of the year preview that the experts now think the UK will suffer from the deepest and longest recession in the G7.
You have to wonder why?
Is the UK totally dependent on Russian oil and gas? No!
So what is it, why has it already run out of money, why is it government struggling to put together sensible business supporting packages?
Why is no one dealing with ambulance queues at A and E?
Or are the government and its ministers wasting their time obsessing about replacing EU rules, when business tells them this makes planning and investment more difficult not less?
And is it suffering from a self inflicted wound it cannot for purely party political reasons heal itself?
Who knows, it is a mystery.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
