The 250 or so voters who saved Boris Johnson’s old constituency for the Tories have a lot to answer for. The lying campaign over ULEZ is now credited with winning the seat for the government and their reaction has been to declare war on green policies across the board.
The latest proposal seems to be to remove council’s ability to set speed limits and close roads to cars. Which in other words means the Tories are wiling to kill more children in an attempt to win the upcoming general election.
They have already reneged on the net zero commitments now they obviously intend to set themselves up as the motorist’s friend.
Doubtless their friends in the media will help them claim the moral low ground and the country is full of petrol heads so who knows. But some polling makes me wonder if they are heading in the right direction.
The Tories are down to 15% support from the under 25’s and falling, but there is a caveat, the young have to vote and the Tory government have made it more difficult for them to vote.
Also the continual policy of Sir Kier Starmer to trim his sails every time he is at risk of being attacked by the Tories is alright but only up to a point.
Voters and especially the young are cynical, even after the multiple scandals and cock ups from this government, even given the state of the economy, they need to think they are voting for something different.
Is Labour different enough?
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

Labour we’re arguably asleep at the wheel - excuse the pin.
