Badly expressed
One might be forgiven for thinking that the Daily Express is all in favour of the Brexit ultras.
Its front page and two whole pages inside are devoted to the subject, crying treason at the idea of a Swiss style deal with the EU, claiming Brexit is a triumph and quoting the usual suspects, all back bench Tory MPs. They still scream that Brexit is brilliant and would be an even better if it had not been betrayed by: remainiacs, traitors, the woke, the blob, Civil Servants, the commentariat and at least 3 of the last 4 Prime Ministers.
Strangely though, if you turn to the editorial page of the very same newspaper, there is a nice article on how being nasty to the EU is probably not the best idea. That we have to be sensible and practical and pragmatic and that deliberately putting obstacles in the path of economic cooperation and trade is probably self defeating.
What is going on?
When the ultras scream blue murder and treason at the very idea of helping British firms export, it is easy for their fellow travellers to decide that they may have backed the wrong horse and gently edge away.
Every day it becomes easier to see the truth, the excuses become thinner, the lies more outrageous and the claims more unbelievable.
The Express, like many others, is hedging its bets and quietly edging away from the loons.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
