Back of the line
The sight of the gammons spluttering over the news of no trade deal with the US would be funny if they hadn’t bet their country’s future on getting one and failed miserably. They were warned and they ignored the warnings. So let’s get some facts straight before they start rewriting history.
The UK still does far more trade with the EU and that trade deal is far worse than it was.
Trade with the US is some 15% of the UK’s total but it is not on WTO terms as they claim, it involves dozens of existing treaties and deals, but is not getting any better.
All the other trade deals with countries which already had ones with the EU are no better than the ones the UK already had. To be fair Japan is slightly better but trade to Japan has still fallen.
This means at least 75% of UK’s trade is worse or no better than before and to counteract that disaster the UK has deals with Australia and NZ, ones so bad that they will seriously damage the UK’s farmers.
The desperate attempt to rewrite history, blame the democrats, claim this doesn’t matter is not just pathetic but dangerous and damaging. the UK cannot start to put any of this right until the Brexiteers admit they made at least some mistakes.
But they won’t, as the bubble would burst.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
