Angels on pin heads
The irony of a Tory government proposing price controls on food is not lost on anyone. That a large sector of its own members are dead set against any such move is hardly surprising, the party is split from head to toe and side to side on almost every issue.
But most ironic thing is that the same MPs who are opposed to price controls are the same ones that have made the situation worse by insisting on a hard Brexit. This has put billions onto food prices, with the situation bound to get worse later this year when new controls are added at the border on imports.
Meanwhile the supermarkets themselves are saying the best way to help is to cut red tape.
The ones opposing price controls are also the same ones who say Brexit hasn’t been hard enough, just a bit more self harm, some more unnecessary domestic regulation, some more red tape at the border and it will all come good.
Meanwhile with food inflation at almost 20%, people are going hungry. Going hungry while the Tory party argues about how many angels can fit on the head of a pin.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
