Act of disunity
Yesterday the Ulster unionists lost a court case, they were trying to claim that the Northern Ireland Protocol was in direct conflict with the Act of Union and so unlawful.
They lost on all counts, the UK government can, it seems, do what it wants within its own borders, even if that means a border down the Irish Sea and the abandonment, once again, of the unionist cause.
The unionists themselves, who backed Brexit, did exactly what you would expect and promptly argued this meant the end to the Good Friday Agreement.
No contrition but just another sad attempt to ratchet up the rhetoric and stamp their feet.
The result is that the even more hardline TUV is waiting in the wings, to come on and steal the DUP’s voters. The DUP having stolen the votes of the UUP which negotiated the GFA.
Meanwhile the British government is quietly amending customs law so it applies to Great Britain and not the UK.
Says it all, really.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
