A rising tide and HS2
I think only an idiot would cancel the HS2 link to Manchester while in the city so I have my doubts about this one but here goes.
One of the government’s many pathetic excuses for why they may have to cancel the project is inflation. It is true that inflation will have put some construction costs up, but then higher prices mean higher revenues for the Chancellor.
Higher wages bring in more income tax and national insurance, higher fuel prices bring in higher fuel duties and higher shop prices bring in far more VAT. The list goes on.
Now I just put it out there, for those more expert than myself, that if the government has much more money coming in than expected, it can afford the one-off cost increases of HS2. After all it is taxing the whole economy and spending on just one project.
Any ideas?
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
