A new reason
I see that the usual list of millionaires are planning to leave the country if the government increases their taxes. Years, decades even, of tax cuts and they are so pathetically touchy that any increase is enough to snuff out their care and concern for their country and instead pay for the defence of Monaco, or social care in The Bahamas.
But now I see there is a new reason why the wealthy, talented and ambitious are leaving to stay in tax free Dubai or Singapore; nothing here works anymore. All said without a single drop of irony.
Why does nothing work? Surely it is not because of 14 years of Tory government, Tory economic experiments, Tory incompetence and Tory callousness. 14 years of running down the state, and the NHS and infrastructure and education and defence all while lying about cutting fat.
Well, the Tories have obviously learnt nothing as the leading candidates are promising more of the same, much more. But if you don’t want to pay nurses, doctors, computer programmers, and all the rest a living wage, there are plenty other places that will. If you go soft on crime because you can’t “afford” enough police or courts that work, if you underfund the NHS, cut school spending, let schools collapse, then eventually other places will look increasingly attractive.
We can afford to lose the millionaires, after all they have been hiding their wealth abroad for as long as I can remember. But we really need the young to prosper here and an ever smaller state means they are less likely to stay, not more.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

A damning indictment - bravo, needs to be said every day.
Nothing was working in Britain last year, nor the years before last. So, if they are leaving because nothing works, why were they not leaving last year?
Isn't this just more media concocted drivel? The big media owners who publish this trash aren't in the UK anyway.
