A dog in the fight
The Chancellor is apparently asking for someone to check all his interests and agree that he has done the right thing and followed all the ministerial rules.
This is politically stupid, it prolongs the story and reminds everyone how rich he is, it also misses the point.
The point is he was so devoted to this country he wanted to be PM, while keeping open the option to move effortlessly abroad at the drop of a hat, if it didn’t work out.
He made people pay more tax while keeping open the option to leave and take his money elsewhere.
It is not about whether his family broke the law, they patently didn’t, or whether he broke the ministerial code, I bet he didn’t.
Rishi Sunak, hedged his bets, when the people he taxed couldn’t. We all know senior politicians are rich and will be even richer the second they leave politics.
But Rishi Sunak didn’t even have a dog in the fight.
It showed.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
