£44bn what to do?
It is nice to think that Liz Truss is just too stupid to realise the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train. But her recent comments make it clear she doesn’t care.
The IFS has crunched the numbers and finds that inflation being so high means the public sector needs another £44bn in cash to pay the bills.
This is all the money that Liz Truss says is available to fund her tax cuts and a bit more.
That’s not counting the £8bn she lost on the regional pay u-turn. Not does it account for the tens of billions needed to stop fuel poverty and soaring inflation killing British citizens this winter.
But then Liz Truss doesn’t do “handouts”, they are Gordon Brown economics which she claims destroyed growth.
Last time I looked growth under Gordon Brown’s leadership was massively higher than under this Tory government and that is before we enter this appalling recession.
But Liz Truss doesn’t care, her eyes are on the prize.
If the country must suffer to make her PM, that is a price worth paying.
Amazingly like Boris Johnson really.
Where do they find these people?
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
