The fall guy
I see there is now a movie of the Fall Guy, some of you of a certain age will remember the original TV version, which of course was the best.
But talking of fall guys what has happened to the Tory plan to oust the PM if the local election results were dire? It has fizzled out as we all knew it would, another new leader now would be farcical. But I am not sure that is the real reason Rishi is safe for a few more months.
You see the right of the party in particular, and there is a lot of far right people in the party now, need a fall guy for the general election. Then they can oust him, or let him resign more likely, and blame him for everything. Being a dangerous socialist, a big spender, a Brexit betrayer, as not racist enough, in hock to the lawyers and the leftie media, a traitor and a coward who didn’t stand up to the bullies in Brussels or the ECHR.
And I think it will work, they will win and invite Reform to join them. What the vast majority of average Tories will do is not clear. Maybe like the Republicans and Trump they will continue to support the party despite the fact that it has been hijacked by the far right. Consoling themselves with the thought that when everything has died down they will take back control.
I doubt whether they ever can do that, the Tories are now lost to the far right, the baby drowners, and swivel eyed loons, the no longer in the closet racists; who think there is an electoral majority in blaming backs for crime, and wrapping themselves in the flag and trying to get their country back- which means returning to the 1950’s as far as I can see.
The Tory party is not dead, these elections just increase the pace of change and the chance of it happening. The far right is on the rise, not at the polling booths but in the Tory party and that is very scary.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
