There is a video on you Tube of the Australian PM at a press conference with the chiefs of all three of the country’s armed forces, when a political question is asked by a member of the press.
All three senior officers walk off the stage, as they cannot be involved in party politics. Maybe the MOD might like to remember that brilliant example of the difference between party and government.
Because yesterday Grant Shapps was interviewed on TV with several soldiers from the Guards in the background. The government and Mr Shapps is always keen to associate itself with the armed forces, despite having cut them again and again.
Especially in the run up to a general election our Armed Forces should be above party politics.
Maybe they should have a word with their Australian counterparts on how to do it properly.
The Tory party believes it is the natural party of government, but this is beyond that. They are trying to create the idea they are the state, the only patriots, the party of the armed forces and the police.
They aren’t, no party is.
But the Tories are desperate, flag shagging will be the order of the day for the next 6 months.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

“flag shagging” - wonderful, just wonderful!
And having the police as your backdrop.
